In Loving Memory of Avery šŸ¾šŸ’™

Avery, photo by Loretta T

Morning glories always make me think of you. Their dewy hues of blue make their way up the creek. Alongside fences. A transient moment in passing doesn't take away the deep emotional bond I had with you.Ā

There are many things I'd say to you. Various different topics. The challenges at work. Any struggles at home. Sometimes I'd serenade you. On the outside looking in, I suppose people would think I was crazy. Crying over the stove. The delirious laughter turned into tears. I'd turn to you saying, ya know what I mean? Maybe you'd tilt your head with high perked ears. Curious about what I said. Was it an offer of food? Or you'd stay laying there and possibly open an eye of acknowledgement. ā€œOf course you don't know,ā€ I'd say, turning back to the stove. ā€œyou're a dog.ā€Ā

You were my most loyal friend. My handsome sweet boy. I thank God so generously for all the years he allowed you to stay with me. I thank him for giving you the strength to be silly one last time for me to capture on camera. For only three days later I'd take you for your final walk. I'd sob for days into your collar. I'd honor your memory in art. Creating my first scrapbook page. Printing every possible picture for a photo album. I cherish the love more than the loss. I am so thankful to have experienced such a companionship

You are not just a dog but a gift of unconditional love.Ā Ā
